LAKE GOGEBIC AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Lake
Gogebic is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan's
largest inland lake located in the far western end of the
Upper Peninsula. Lake Gogebic is a four-season vacation gem
- still undiscovered by many. Lake Gogebic itself is
in two counties and in two time zones. The north half of
Lake Gogebic is in Ontonagon County, Bergland
Township, and the Eastern Time zone. The south half of
the lake is in Gogebic County, Marenisco Township,
and the Central Time zone.
In
13,380 acres of prime fishing water, Lake Gogebic
offers walleye, small mouth bass, northern pike, jumbo perch
and some whitefish. Throughout the season, the Lake
Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a
tagged fish contest with thousands of dollars in
prizes.

Fishing Tournament information.
This region is
also a prime hunting hot spot for deer, bear, small
game and birds. The autumn colors are spectacular.
Waterfalls abound and many are very easily accessed.
Honeymooners will enjoy searching out the more remote falls.
Lake Superior's shores are close by too.
Families will
enjoy Lake Gogebic's summer water sports, camping,
sightseeing and hiking the surrounding
timberland. The area is full of historic sites and history.
The wildflowers and wildlife are everywhere. Biking,
ATVs and walking are a way of life.

WINTER
IS OUR HAPPENING! MARQUETTE, MI
We have had a great
summer and fall. Lake Superior over 20 degrees warmer than
normal, long warm days and an extra long fall color season.
All of this points to a wild winter season. If predictions
follow the norm, a warmer Lake Superior will produce big
snowfalls.
Here in
Marquette County the annual seasonal recreation equipment
switch is happening. Going away are the kayaks, bikes,
inflatables, and coolers, only to be replaced by ice picks,
snowmobiles, ski equipment and skates. It is our rite
of passage here in the county, as we look forward to the
“white gold” falling out of the sky and covering us with
many feet of snow.
